TUIASI Students Continue INGENIUM Collaboration in Cork with the “Dental Ergonomic Plate” Project

TUIASI Students Continue INGENIUM Collaboration in Cork

Between 7 and 11 October, a group of students from Gheorghe Asachi Technical University of Iași (TUIASI) travelled to Cork, Ireland, to work alongside their peers from Medical University of Sofia (MUS) at Munster Technological University (MTU).
The visit marked the second stage of the INGENIUM Student Partnership – Ergonomic Dental Plate project, after the first workshop hosted by TUIASI in July, which gathered students from MTU and MUS.

The project focuses on the design and ergonomic optimization of a wearable dental instrument plate, meant to assist practitioners in maintaining efficiency and comfort during clinical procedures.

Testing, designing, improving

Throughout the days, the mixed teams of engineering and dental students collaborated in MTU’s labs and design spaces, engaging in a combination of prototype testing, data analysis, and CAD modelling.
They refined the design by integrating feedback from the first phase in Iași, focusing on material balance, usability, and weight distribution.

Collaboration across borders

The project is part of the INGENIUM European University Alliance, which brings together ten universities committed to developing shared educational pathways, research, and innovation.
This student partnership represents one of the alliance’s most dynamic forms of cooperation, giving young researchers a chance to work on real-life challenges in an international environment.

Beyond technical sessions, students also had the opportunity to discover Cork’s academic and cultural life, strengthening friendships and teamwork beyond the lab.

Looking ahead

The next stage will focus on finalizing the enhanced CAD model and preparing the next iteration of the prototype for further testing.
Each step brings the team closer to developing a practical, ergonomic tool that responds to real needs in the dental field — and stands as a symbol of what European collaboration can achieve.
