Between October 13–17, the GreenGenium team at the Gheorghe Asachi Technical University of Iași (TUIASI) welcomed Alae Belaich, a student from the Université de Rouen Normandie (URN), for a week of educational and sustainability-focused activities.
GreenGenium is one of the local initiatives developed at TUIASI as part of the INGENIUM Student Partnerships, a project within the INGENIUM European University Alliance.
The alliance connects universities across Europe to promote collaboration, innovation, and sustainable education through joint research and student engagement.
Composting on Campus – “One Peel at a Time”
On October 14, GreenGenium organized a hands-on event near the composter between T12 & T13 on the TUIASI campus. Participants talked about why composting matters, enjoyed some bananas and apples, composted the peels right on site, and shared stickers promoting a cleaner, greener campus.
“Small steps, big impact — every peel counts when you compost!”
The event combined practical learning and environmental awareness, showing how simple actions can make a meaningful difference in creating a sustainable university community.
Academic Visits and Knowledge Exchange
During the week, Alae Belaich met with Prof. Irina Lungu, INGENIUM Project Coordinator at TUIASI, to discuss the current stage of GreenGenium and explore ideas for its further development.
He then visited the Faculty of Chemical Engineering, where Associate Professor Alexandra-Cristina Blaga offered a guided tour of the research laboratories, highlighting innovative projects carried out by students and staff.
Later, Assistant Professor Cătălin-Dumitrel Balan, an expert in composting, introduced Alae to the faculty’s composting area. He explained the processes and challenges of composting organic waste and presented the work conducted together with fourth-year students.

Collaboration Across Borders for a Greener Future
The visit illustrated the essence of the INGENIUM Student Partnerships — building bridges between universities, sharing knowledge, and encouraging sustainable practices.
Through projects like GreenGenium, students and staff work together to develop innovative solutions for real-world environmental challenges, fostering a European academic culture of sustainability and responsibility.
This exchange between TUIASI and the Université de Rouen Normandie is yet another step toward a more connected, sustainable, and forward-thinking academic community.
