Dental Ergonomic Plate Project at TUIASI – An INGENIUM Collaboration

The Dental Ergonomic Plate project brought together students from Bulgaria, Ireland, and Romania for a collaborative visit hosted by “Gheorghe Asachi” Technical University of Iași (TUIASI) between 22–25 July 2025. Organized under the INGENIUM Student Partnership, the initiative supports interdisciplinary teamwork and international academic mobility.

Dental Ergonomic Plate Project: International Student Collaboration at TUIASI

The project’s main objective is to design a wearable tool that helps dentists work more efficiently by keeping instruments at their fingertips—literally, on the wrist. Dental students contributed practical, clinical knowledge, while engineering students focused on design and prototyping. Together, they embodied the spirit of collaboration that defines both TUIASI’s international strategy and the INGENIUM Alliance’s values.

Their time at TUIASI included technical workshops focused on prototype development, a clinical and historical discussion on dental ergonomics by Dr. Corina Concita, “Grigore T. Popa” University of Medicine and Pharmacy of Iași, and a practical academic writing session with Assoc. Prof. Evagrina Dîrțu. These activities not only supported their current project goals but also laid the foundation for their future scientific publication.

The program also allowed students to immerse themselves in Romanian academic culture and heritage. They visited TUIASI’s flagship student innovation space, the Racing Garage, and the university library. Cultural highlights included walking tours of Iași’s historic center, visits to the Palace of Culture, local churches, and shared dinners that fostered camaraderie and intercultural understanding.

This successful collaboration reflects TUIASI’s ongoing commitment to global engagement and interdisciplinary learning, while reinforcing the broader mission of INGENIUM: to connect institutions, students, and ideas across Europe.

The team will continue refining the design and prepare for physical prototyping during their upcoming visit to MTU Ireland in October 2025.
